Great survivor as only a hand full of these are left. I have commented on another site, would like to leave mine here, thank you. Original owner here, as I ordered mine in March of 73 It took 7 weeks to build and ship to the dealer. 401 with go pac and 4- speed manual. My understanding is around 20% of Javelin AMX's ordered, came with the rare cowl induction, it added $475.00 to the price tag. Mine stickered at $4,471.90. Upon my AMX arriving, the stock 3.54 rear gears were changed out to the dealer install 3.73 gears as a better choice over the 3.90 gears for what I wanted. The very restrictive stock intake was changed out to the big port 1970 cast iron Rebel Machine intake, along with a carb change to a Carter 675 cfm. The stock centrifugal roller assist pressure plate that prevented power shifting, was changed out to a 10 1/2 in. after market one. The front 7/8 in. dia. sway bar was swapped for a 1 in. dia. bar, along with the addition of a 1/2 in. dia. rear sway bar. The rear axel and hub assembly's were both pulled with a second 1/4 in. keyway, 180 deg. opposite machined into each axel and hub assembly to prevent rear axel failure and the hub and wheel coming off. The Javelin AMX was then for two years raced on a 3/4 mile Gymkhana road course. Learning to drive the AMX from the rear tires was a challenge and a learning curve. I learned that the Penske Trans Am team found, the 71 Javelin would have an actual 1/2 lb. boost in air pressure to the carb at 70 mph, allowing a mild supercharging effect. I got another air cleaner housing from a junk yard, cut the inlet neck off and sealed the opening off, purchased a new cowl air flapper. I cut the entire flapper assembly out leaving just the metal ring and rubber seal to the under hood opening. The carb would now only breath the pressured cold air coming from the back of the cowl hood with no under hood warm air at all. Instead of one air cleaner element, there was room for a second one on top of the other. This set up was a night and day difference over the factory stock as the engine only breathes outside air now. The second and third year racing the AMX, I scored one first place finish and two second place finishes The AMX has never been on the quarter mile, so I have no idea what the times might have been. In 1980 the AMX was put into storage for 10 years and it's racing days were over. Today with 95,000 actual miles on it, it only comes out for a couple of car shows along with a Sunday afternoon cruise on the country back roads. The AMX is always garaged and on jack stands to prevent spring sag, and in my opinion, it is one bad to the bone road rocket. Nothing has ever been done to the engine except for an oil pump and timming chain change.

Good story behind a great bike

I had same car mine was red and silver with red interior and factory swivel bucket seats. Was just as nice until a lady ran a stop sign and hit me.

It looks better than modern cars of today. Some people put some effort into styling it.

Super awesome rare wagon

My Dad owned a 1964 98 Olds with the high compression engine ( creamy white color). Not a many options as yours and it was a hardtop. My older brother got it for his first car and then when he went into the service I bought it. They had powerful engines but they were heavy cars..good for trips real smooth and comfortable. 12mpg but gas was under .40 cents then. 3 speed though don't know where you got they were 4 speed.

That thing is a legend. Beautiful car. Friend of mine had a lt blue one with dark blue interior.
